Accreditation Process

All programs delivered at Primary Care Today must be Mainpro M1 accredited.

Please note the difference between APPROVAL and ACCREDITATION. Prior to ethical review,
a program is only considered to be approved (not accredited). Ethical review is the final step that
leads to accreditation.

National Mainpro-M1 Approval/Accreditation
If a program is to be implemented across the country it must be nationally accredited by the College
of Family Physicians of Canada. National Mainpro-M1 accreditation is a two step process:
1. program/content approval, 2. ethical review.

It will take at least two months to receive national approval.

Ethical Review
Once National Mainpro-M1 approval is received, the program must be submitted to each of
the Provincial CFPC Chapters for Ethical Review every time the program runs for final accreditation.

It will take approximately 5 work days to receive ethical review.

Provincial Mainpro-M1 Approval/Accreditation
If a program is only delivered in one or two provinces, a submission to that province's chapter
is sufficient. If it is delivered in more than two provinces, it can still be provincially accredited
only but financially it is better to have it nationally accredited.

However, an ethical review is still needed.

Program accredited by a university
Mainpro-M1 accreditation by a university is valid in that specific province where the university is located.
If the program is to be run in another province or nationally, it has to be submitted to the CFPC
for approval and its' provincial chapters for ethical review/final accreditation.
