What is CAPRE?

CAPRE provides you and your patients with critically appraised information on current knowledge about a particular therapeutic area.

Through CAPRE:

  • Critically appraised information is presented to the patient;
  • The patient then has an opportunity to review this information;
  • At a follow-up visit, the physician and patient decide on the best course of action.
  • The physician completes an online Practice Reflection Exercise

By completing the steps of a CAPRE module, it is hoped that physicians will be encouraged to incorporate critically appraised information and strategies into daily practice for the benefit of their patients. Patient involvement in decision making has been demonstrated to lead to higher patient satisfaction with their healthcare and it is more likely that patients will follow the decision made.

CAPRE programs cover a range of topics

It is anticipated that a new program will be added every four to six weeks. It should take you approximately one hour to complete a program.

Each program meets the accreditation criteria for the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and has been accredited for 2 Mainpro-C credits. You will also be entitled to one Mainpro-M1 credit for every Mainpro-C credit earned.
